Take, for example, the rare Rolex 6062's that you see above. One of them was completely original and in immaculate condition, having lived in a sock for 60 years (we showed you a photo essay of it here), and the other is a polished down example with a rough dial. These watch are identical when looking at them from 30,000 feet. They are both reference 6062's in yellow gold with star dials. They are from the same year (1952) and they are only 16 serial numbers apart from each other! They were both sold within the last two weeks at public auction in New York, so selling conditions were all but identical. Yet, the watch at left with its polished case and dirty dial brought in $62,500 while the watch at right, according to many, the cleanest example of the 6062 to ever appear publicly, brought in a whopping $542,000. Keep in mind - same watch, same case material, same movement, just very different condition.
